Grey Missile breaks metropolitan maiden

Saturday 25 January 2020, 5:47pm

Top country sprinter Grey Missile looked the best placed horse at the Sunshine Coast meeting and that's the way it turned out.

Grey Missile ($7) went to the lead and never looked in danger in the Coastline BMW X5 Handicap (1200m).

The gelding looked well placed because he had won nine races in North Queensland including the state's best country sprint race, the 2018 $100,000 Cleveland Bay Hcp.

Grey Missile was anchored by big weights in recent northern starts so trainer Roy Chillemi urged owner Tom Hedley to send Grey Missile to the Toby and Trent Edmonds partnership at the Gold Coast.

Team Edmonds has had plenty of success for Hedley with top sprinter Tyzone.

"We took the blinkers off him and he trialled well without them. He has won 10 races now so we will have to see exactly where we can place him," Trent Edmonds said.

"When they let Brad (jockey Stewart) lead I knew Grey Missile would be hard to beat."
