Trainer Patrick Payne will give promising two-year-old Late Charge a chance at the big time with the colt a definite starter in his first city race at Flemington on Saturday.
But his other entry in the Riverdale Handicap (1400m), Impeccable Me, could be drafted to run at Cranbourne on Thursday instead, if forecast rain arrives.
Late Charge won at his first outing on a slow track over 1200 metres at Echuca last week and Payne, better known for training stayers and jumpers than two-year-olds, says the horse has shown he can perform well.
"We're taking a big step after its maiden at Echuca," Payne said.
"Flemington will be a lot harder but he shows ability."
Impeccable Me also won his debut, scoring on a heavy track at Ballarat last month.
"He's a plain horse but good on a wet track," Payne said.
"There's a big wet coming through so I might run him at Cranbourne."
Also among the entries for the juvenile race at Flemington is the Tony Vasil-trained Under the Louvre who overcame a slow start to win at Caulfield on July 3 to make it two wins from two starts.
The trainer intended to send him to the spelling paddock after his Caulfield win to get ready for the spring but hs entered him in the Riverdale which carries a $100,000 Inglis bonus in addition to VOBIS bonuses.
Under the Louvre's stablemate, Under The Eiffel owned in the same interests, is the top weight with 60kg in the Hiraji Handicap over 1600 metres.
Under The Eiffel, who ran second to Offenders over 1400 metres at Caulfield last Saturday, won the Swan Hill Cup last month at the meeting where Under the Louvre made his winning debut.
