The 1992 Melbourne Cup winner Subzero is recovering after a health scare.
His owner and clerk of the course Graham Salisbury took his much-loved rising 25-year-old to the University of Melbourne Veterinary Clinic at Werribee after he had gone off his feed.
Racing Victoria said clinical investigations had identified minor renal insufficiency but a series of scans cleared the horse of more serious health issues.
Since retirement from clerk-of-the-course duties, Subzero now spends his time visiting schools all around Victoria and even has his own line of merchandise.
