Doomben washed out by heavy rain

Thursday 6 February 2020, 9:16am

The Doomben twilight meeting has been abandoned after around 60mm drenched the track in three hours.

Course manager Jim Roberts and stewards inspected the track and decided racing was not possible and officially abandoning Thursday's meeting at 7am.

"We had 53 mils from 3.45am until we inspected the track but we have had at least another seven since then and it showed no signs of stopping," Roberts said.

"There is water lying all over the track and even though we had a late start there was no chance of drying in time."

The Brisbane Racing Club will inspect Eagle Farm, which is an exceptional drying track, before again rating it.

Eagle Farm, which hosts a nine race meeting on Saturday, was in the soft range before the overnight rain.
