Talented mare Twilighter has taken time to mature but trainer Desleigh Forster is confident she is now on the road to being a top stayer.
Twilighter ($4.60) overcame a wide barrier to beat Ultimate Ring ($4.60) by 3/4 length in the Grinders Handicap (1840m) at Eagle Farm.
Twilighter was originally trained by Chris Waller but has been with Forster for this campaign.
"She has been getting back in her races and we decided to go forward today from the bad alley," Forster said.
"When she draws a good barrier she will be something to beat in a staying race."
Twilighter is by New Zealand based sire Reliable Man who has had considerable success in Queensland with stayers.
"She has the breeding to be a good stayer and I reckon she can live up to that," Forster said.
Winning jockey Mark Du Plessis said Twilighter was travelling so well on the turn he elected to take the lead on straightening.
