Edmonds hoping Vanna Girl is an Oaks filly

Saturday 8 February 2020, 3:50pm

Gold Coast trainer Toby Edmonds is daring to hope in-form Vanna Girl might be an Oaks filly after her impressive Eagle Farm win.

Vanna ($3.70) made it three wins from her past four starts when she burst into the clear on the fence at the 200m in the Mount Franklin Handicap (1600m).

She went on to beat Violet ($10) by 1-1/2 lengths with 2-3/4 lengths to Stuttering ($3.70) in third.

Vanna Girl is a half-sister to the consistent Plucky Girl who won eight races for Edmonds.

"Vanna Girl is by Husson so you would think she can get further than 1600m," Edmonds said.

"When you have a three year old filly getting out in distance you dare to hope for an Oaks filly.

"I suppose we will be having a look at the Queensland Oaks."

Edmonds, who trains in partnership with his son Trent, said the filly would press on for a few more runs before being eased for the winter.

"If she can win a few more it can increase her rating which will be a help in the carnivals," he said.

Jockey Matt McGillivray brought up a double after earlier winning on Hancora Field in the two-year-old.

"She is a promising filly and I think she will get out in distance," McGillivray said.
