Another top filly for Reeves family

Friday 14 February 2020, 1:48pm

The Reeves family has been breeding top class fillies and mares for decades and look to have another one in Kisukano.

The filly will make her metropolitan debut in the$125,000 QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap (1000m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Kisukano takes on a strong field but will not be out of place based on her impressive 7-1/2 length win at Toowoomba on debut two weeks ago.

Stanthorpe-based Peter, Michael and Robert Reeves have between them been breeding and racing horses for nearly 30 years.

The best horse to carry their white and green colours was the gelding Prince Hakeem who won 11 races.

The Reeves family is best known for their fillies and mares including stakes performers Grouse Lane, Princess Margaret and Huntington Girl as well as the handy Courtyard Circle and Top Of The Rock.

Kisukano is by Bel Esprit out of Kiss For Gran who is a daughter of Grouse Lane.

Kiss For Gran is a half sister to Princess Margaret who won the 2006 Listed Silk Stocking at the Gold Coast.

Most of the Reeves family horses have been trained in Toowoomba by Michael Nolan.

"I started started training for them about 25 years ago and they have been great owners," Nolan said.

"They have had a lot of good horses including Prince Hakeem but they are renowned for the bloodlines with their fillies," Nolan said.

"Kisukano ran a class record at her first start and not many do that. She deserves a go in town.

"Robert Reeves and I put the syndicate together to race her. It includes a few blokes I went to Marist Brothers College with as a schoolboy.

"They love their racing so I am always keen to get a winner for them."
