Dylan Caboche returns with winner at Sale

Friday 21 February 2020, 4:58pm

After a year on the sidelines, apprentice Dylan Caboche has landed a winner at Sale at his first ride back from injury.

The recent year-long break only added to Caboche's woes in a career not only interrupted by injury but personal leave after a suspension for punching a horse at Port Lincoln in 2017, an incident that made national headlines.

With that episode well behind him and now over his most recent ailment, Caboche partnered Whipcracker Way for Phillip Stokes who he was apprenticed to in Adelaide before his injury.

Caboche tore the ACL, PCL, MCL and meniscus in his knee and suffered a fractured right foot in an accident at trackwork.

Complications after surgery resulted in Caboche moving to Melbourne to be closer to his family and also Racing Victoria doctor Gary Zimmerman.

Friday's winner at Sale was Caboche's first ride since February 9 last year and followed Mostly Sunny winning for his father Patrick at Pakenham on Thursday night.

"My boss put me on a good one first-up and it's good to get the monkey off the back," Caboche told broadcaster racing.com.

"I thought six months in I would never ride again as there were a few complications along the way after surgery.

"But I moved to Victoria and Gary Zimmerman fixed me up and I'm good to go now.

"After Dad's horse won last night I thought we might be on to something and have a good couple of days."
