Low-key return for jockey Michael Cahill

Wednesday 4 March 2020, 1:07pm

Leading Brisbane jockey Michael Cahill rode in 11 trials on Tuesday and is ready to return to race riding after a four-month injury-enforced break.

Cahill will make a low-key return to riding at Eagle Farm on Saturday but can hardly wait to get back into action.

"I rode at the Gold Coast trials last week and then I was in 11 trials at Eagle Farm on Tuesday," he said.

"The weight is coming down and the fitness level going up. At this stage I will have three rides on Saturday."

Cahill has not ridden in a race since October 25 when he has found to have a fractured right foot.

He had been riding for 10 days with the injury after hitting his foot in the barriers at a Murwillumbah meeting.

Cahill's stay on the sidelines was lengthened by a fall at home when he was wearing a moon boot.

He visited the specialist two weeks and was given the green light to start riding trackwork.

Cahill, who won two Group One races on The Bostonian during the winter, was leading the metropolitan premiership on 19 winners when injured.

He has since slipped to ninth, 24 behind leader, apprentice Baylee Nothdurft.

"Premierships are out of my mind and I just want to get back to riding," he said.
