Jockey Nathan Day suspended for six weeks

Wednesday 4 March 2020, 6:35pm

Jockey Nathan Day has been suspended for six weeks on a handling charge from a race in January.

Day indicated he would fight the charge and suspension through all avenues if required.

Stewards opened an inquiry into Day's ride on Helsun who ran third in a maiden at Doomben on January 16.

Stewards took exception to Day's ride from the 600m to turn and in the straight.

The inquiry was adjourned until Wednesday where Day was charged with failing to take all steps to ensure Helsun finished in the best possible position.

Day pleaded not guilty and stewards imposed a ban that was reduced because of his good record.

"I will fight this with the whole way if necessary," Day said.

"I have ridden for 30 years in three different countries and never been accused of anything like this."
