Trainer Mike Moroney will opt to start in-form Octavia in a support race for fillies and mares rather than the $150,000 Group Three Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.
Moroney believes female gallopers are disadvantaged in weight-for-ages races at this time of year and would prefer she run against her own sex.
Since returning from a 20-week spell, the three-year-old Octavia has just been edged out in her two starts - beaten a nose to She Can Skate at Moonee Valley on June 29 and a short half-head to Vicario at Caulfield on July 13.
"She is pretty close to some of those (good) horses in the Bletchingly but she is very well off in the other race," Moroney said.
"She has been in good form and only narrowly beaten in her last two starts."
He said Octavia found herself in the worst part of the track on the fence at Caulfield when she was beaten by Vicario.
"It just wasn't the place to be on the day," he said.
As for his other entries on Saturday, Moroney is still tossing up about last-start winner Te Karaka because of concerns of a heavy track.
He is also giving About Square time to recover his fourth behind Falcent at Flemington on Saturday before he deciding if he should back-up the three-year-old.
But definite starters are Awesome Goal in the 2400m race for three-year-olds and Mrs Hadlee in the 1400m race for three-year-old fillies.
"She (Mrs Hadlee) has come off a narrow defeat last start and is really going well," Moroney said.
"She will be very competitive."
Moroney will take the opportunity to claim on Mrs Hadlee and he has booked 2kg allowance rider Jackie Beriman.
