Memories of the late owner Pattie Crooks were revived when Mishani Epic scored a shock win at Eagle Farm.
Mishani Epic ($51) came from the tail of the field to sail past the favourite Bellissimi Amici ($2.60) in the QTIS 2YO (1400m).
Trainer Les Ross was emotional after the win as he was great friends with Crooks and her husband Mike Crooks who still races many horses with him.
"It is two years to the day that Patti died. I am a bit emotional as she was the one who named all the horses with the word Mishani in them," he said.
"I think she might have been looking down on us today."
Ross makes an art form of winning QTIS bonus races with his two and three-year-olds and is leading the QTIS premiership this year.
"Mishani Epic was disappointing last time but I thought the 1400m might suit him better today," he said.
"I said at the start of this year we were going to be a power in the two year old races and it has turned out that way.
"I keep saying it but QTIS is wonderful for trainers such as me."
Ross has now had seven individual two-year-old winners this season.
