Life at the beach helps Brocson to victory

Saturday 21 March 2020, 3:21pm

Tough stayer Brocson continues to revel in life at the beach and marked himself as a possible winter carnival hope at Eagle Farm.

Making the most of apprentice Adin Thompson's 3kg claim, Brocson ($7) outslogged a field of handy stayers in the Souths Sports Club Handicap (2400m).

Brocson has had 76 starts and for a large percentage of them he was mainly tried as a 1600m horse.

However, in recent years Brocson has been stepped up in distance and has proved more than adept at 2400m where his record now stands at five starts for two wins and two seconds.

Trainer Michael Lakey said Brocson did a lot of his work at Sandgate Beach and seemed to thrive on it.

"It is great for old horses like him to help look after his legs. Who knows he might go round in one of the longer staying races late in the carnival," Lakey said.

"Brocson has always been a horse that just keeps on going and a 3200m race should be no problems for him."

"He has won eight races now and he should have enough prizemoney to get into a few of those type fields."
