The only real concern trainer Stephen Theodore had when he arrived at Sandown on Wednesday was whether the newcomer to his stable would handle the bog track.
His worries ended before the heavily backed Don't Get Excited reached the halfway mark of the Sportingbet.com.au Handicap (1000m).
Theodore acquired Don't Get Excited from trainer Austy Coffey who had done a good enough job with the gelding for it earn topweight of 59kg in the Sandown race.
"Austy had done a great job with him and he'd shown us a lot at home," Theodore said.
"But he hadn't run for a while and you can't be sure of them when they're on tracks as heavy as this for the first time."
Despite the doubts, Don't Get Excited, the $4 favourite, was the best-backed runner in the race and his supporters had their money won a long way out.
After getting the better of early leader Miss Macarena, Don't Get Excited saw off the filly Carvalho ($9) to score by 1-1/4 lengths.
Appoint ($13) headed the rest a further five lengths away.
Jockey Michael Rodd added to the merit of the win, declaring Don't Get Excited a "much better than midweek" galloper.
"Normally you don't like to push them around too much on a heavy 10 track," Rodd said.
"But he was going so well that I let him push his way clear and he did it easily."
