Wagga Wagga-trained April Rose enhanced her reputation as a short-course and wet-track specialist with an all-the-way win at Sandown on Wednesday.
Making it six 1000m wins in her eight starts, April Rose, the $2.80 favourite, found the strength to fight off the fast-finishing Dashing Shadow ($10) by 2-1/4 lengths with Music Shop ($13) another length away third in the Sportingbet's Protest Pay Up Handicap (1000m).
It was her third win from four starts on surfaces rated slow or worse.
Apprentice Kayla Nisbet rode April Rose when she was beaten into third at Caulfield on July 3 but the experience held her in good stead at Sandown.
"At Caulfield we would have been better off leading but we took a sit instead and she just couldn't quicken like she did today," Nisbet said.
April Rose, trained by Dave Heywood, is yet another of the Marwina progeny who thrive on rain-affected tracks.
