Two on the trot for future jumper Budd Fox

Saturday 28 March 2020, 1:10pm

Budd Fox delayed the start to a jumps career with a solid win in a staying race at Bendigo.

The victory in Saturday's Alan "Simmo" Simpson Tribute Handicap (2400m) was Budd Fox's second on end after he scored over 3000m at Sandown on March 11.

Budd Fox was a late pick up ride for apprentice Jess Eaton, replacing Michael Poy after he was delayed en route to the course.

He was schooled over hurdles before his previous two starts and Matt Jenkins, stable representative for trainer Henry Dwyer, said the plan was to again school the gelding on Friday.

But Jenkins said while Budd Fox was showing form on the flat, the plan was to find another flat race before contemplating a switch to racing over jumps.

"He's had a faultless prep, he keeps winning and there's not much more that you can ask for," Jenkins said.

"I think the jump trials that we've given him between runs has put a bit of spring in his step.

"He seems to be racing really well after those trials and we've got another one earmarked for him on Friday.

"We're just keeping things different for him, a bit of beach work and over the sticks.

"He might have a jumping career down the track but while he's racing well on the flat, why change things."
