Qld trainer, jockey premierships on hold

Wednesday 1 April 2020, 12:01pm

Racing Queensland will suspend all jockey and trainer premiership counts until further notice.

Queensland is now on five regions for racing purposes during the COVID-19 outbreak with the southern Queensland area divided into north and south.

Jockeys have to nominate one area where they will ride and trainers are restricted to their own region.

A Racing Queensland spokesperson said in the interest of fairness all premiership counts across the state would be suspended from Monday this week.

As it stands Baylee Nothdurft is in the box seat to become the first apprentice since Zac Purton (2002-03) to win the senior metropolitan title.

Nothdurft sits on 52-1/2 winners from Robbie Fradd on 47-1/2.

He would join a elite group of apprentices to win the senior title including Purton, Michael Rodd, Chris Munce, Neil Williams and Tony Erhart.
