Rain puts paid to Sunshine Coast meeting

Wednesday 8 April 2020, 1:10pm

The Sunshine Coast meeting was postponed after two races following persistent rain through the morning on Wednesday.

The track was rated a heavy eight after 27mm of rain overnight and then further downgraded with another 26mm falling in the morning.

Chairman of stewards James Williamson said jockeys had raised concerns with visibility after the first race and conditions showed no signs of improving after the running of the second event.

Before the meeting was postponed trainer Trevor Miller recorded another Sunshine Coast winner with Zingalong ($15) in the two-year-old.

For many years Miller was known as the "King of The Coast" when winning a dozen Sunshine Coast premierships after settling there in 1986.

It is estimated Miller has won about 800 races at the Sunshine Coast with Stakes horses such as Whale Of A Knight, Heavenly Knight, Baal Yabba, Waterford Road and Seek Glory.

But his best-known horse was Gallant Ruler who won 24 races at the track.

The more it rained the more confident Miller felt with Zingalong.

"He trialled really well on a heavy track and I had him very fit," Miller said.

"That was a metropolitan race so he has paid his way already."
