Big winter ahead for easy winner Isotope

Saturday 11 April 2020, 12:25pm

Premier trainer Tony Gollan's decision to miss the Magic Millions Classic with well-bred filly Isotope looks set to pay dividends in the winter after she scored a runaway debut win at Doomben.

Isotope was backed from $2.40 to $1.75 before scoring by 10 lengths in the Lexus Two-Year-Old Plate (1110m).

Gollan went to $170,000 for Isotope and she showed enough early promise for him to earmark her as a Magic Millions 2YO Classic horse.

"She won a trial in December but she wasn't ready for the Magic Millions," Gollan said.

"I decided to be patient and put her away with the winter carnival in mind.

"It isn't a full winter carnival because of coronavirus but Racing Queensland has announced some black-type races for two-year-olds which should suit her.

"I have no doubt she will get further than 1110m. She will probably be best around 1400m."

Isotope is by top sire Deep Field out of Great Dansaar who is a three-quarter sister to Group One performer Yankee Rose.

"She has the breeding and the racing style to be something a bit special," Gollan said.

"We have taken our time with our two-year-olds this season and we have a few more good ones to come."
