Gytrash defeats Sunlight in Irwin Stakes

Saturday 18 April 2020, 4:12pm

Gytrash has posted a decisive victory over multiple Group One winner Sunlight in the Group Three Irwin Stakes at Morphettville.

Saturday's meeting signals the start of the Adelaide carnival with the two star sprinters scheduled to meet again in the Goodwood next month.

Trained by Gordon Richards, Gytrash has emerged this autumn with victory in the Group One Lightning Stakes and placings in the Newmarket Handicap and William Reid Stakes.

Home Of The Brave ($20) took up the running but had little answer when Gytrash ($2.10 fav) let down at the top of the straight under Jason Holder.

Having her first start since November, Sunlight ($2.50) tried hard but Gytrash drew away to win by three lengths with Home Of The brave another length third in the 1100m-dash.

"To win is good. To win so arrogantly is very satisfying," Richards said.

"To win so easily shows he's the real deal.

"I've got nothing in the stable that can go with him."

The Group One Goodwood (1200m) is at Morphettville on May 16.
