Golden Slipper winner Overreach is building towards a racetrack return and will head a classy group of fillies and mares for owner-breeder George Altomonte this spring.
The proprietor of Corumbene Stud and the winner of many Group One races, Altomonte celebrated his biggest success with Overreach in the Slipper and is hoping the filly can go on to capture the $1 million Golden Rose in September.
Trainer Gai Waterhouse plans to give Overreach a barrier trial within the next two weeks ahead of a campaign which is also likely to include the Flight Stakes and a step up to 1600m on October 5.
Altomonte's other spring hopefuls are stakes winners Ichihara and Bennetta, Saturday's Randwick winner Watabout and Adria, a full sister to 2008 Golden Slipper winner Sebring who makes her debut at Gosford on Thursday.
Watabout, Ichihara and Adria are trained by Allan Denham while Bennetta is in the Grahame Begg stable.
"Overreach has put on 40 kilograms and looks great," Altomonte said.
"She will be aimed at the Golden Rose and the Flight Stakes. She is certainly bred to get 1600 metres.
"Watabout is definitely a black type filly and I'm looking forward to Adria at Gosford.
"Bennetta has been back in work about two or three weeks and we haven't worked out a program for her yet.
"Ichihara is also back in work. All our horses spelled up at Corumbene where I can get to see them."
Bennetta won the Group Two Light Fingers Stakes, beating Ichihara and Victorian Oaks winner Dear Demi, in February.
Ichihara went on to beat her male counterparts in both the Listed Eskimo Prince Stakes and the Gosford Guineas.
Altomonte's brood mare band includes Hasna who ran third in the 2005 Slipper before going on to win the final two triple crown races, the Sires' Produce Stakes and Champagne Stakes.
