New Zealand boom colt Cauthen has pleased trainer Andrew Campbell with the way he has settled into Victoria ahead of his Australian debut at Moonee Valley on Saturday.
Cauthen impressed experts back home with an 8-1/2 length win in his first race at Te Rapa on July 3.
Campbell said Cauthen, who arrived at Peter Morgan's Whittlesea property last Wednesday with Group Three Wellington Stakes winner Weissmuller, was looking "enormous".
"We're very happy with the way he has travelled over," Campbell said.
Campbell said Cauthen's form had stood up after the placegetters behind him at Te Rapa ran first, second and third in a race in New Zealand at the weekend.
"I've always thought a lot of him and you worry what's behind him when you win that well, but last Saturday at Te Rapa the placegetters behind him ran one, two and three," Campbell said.
He said he was hoping the Moonee Valley field of three-year-old colts and geldings didn't run Cauthen off his feet in the 1000m handicap.
"It may be a bit short for him but we have to kick off somewhere. If he's hitting the line well we'll be over the moon," Campbell said.
It won't be a cakewalk for Cauthen because among the the field is the Rick Hore-Lacy-trained Clevadude, winner of his first two starts before his disappointing 14th in the $2 million Magic Millions Two-Year-Old Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 12.
The Peter Moody-trained Weinholt and Shea Eden's debut Seymour winner Red Samurai were also among nominations taken on Monday.
Cauthen needs to start his Australian spring campaign early to earn prize money to ensure he gets into the upcoming feature races with his New Zealand win worth just $5000.
Campbell's dream is to run the son of Darci Brahma in the $1 million Caulfield Guineas in October.
"It's early days yet but if we can get there it will be a great thrill," he said.
Weissmuller is being targeted at a 1400m race at Flemington on August 10.
"We've brought him over as a companion for Cauthen but he's a pretty smart horse and we're just taking him along quietly," Campbell said.
But if he runs up to Campbell's hopes, Weissmuller will be entered for the Cox Plate.
