An early spring campaign with a difference awaits Sydney sprinter Snitsky.
Trainer Gerald Ryan and owners Darby Racing have mapped out an ambitious program on the other side of the country with Snitzel to be flown from Melbourne to Perth on Wednesday.
He will be aimed at the three-race Listed sprint series at Belmont with a tilt at the famous Hannan's Handicap at Kalgoorlie also on the agenda.
Ryan said there were several reasons for taking Snitzky west, not least the chance to try something different.
"He will drop four-and-a-half kilos on what he gets here," Ryan said.
"But it won't be as easy as some people think. The form in Perth is strong.
"He has done a fair bit of work anti-clockwise so he will handle that. The sprint series is a good progression and if he goes well he could also run in the Hannan's at Kalgoorlie.
"We just thought it was a different idea and we should give it a go."
The Belmont series starts with the Newmarket (1200m) on Saturday week followed by the Goodwood Sprint (1300m) two weeks later with the Farnley Stakes (1400m) another fortnight later.
The $130,000 Listed Hannan's Handicap (1400m) is on September 18.
Snitszky is the winner of six of his 16 starts and goes to Perth on the back of a last-start second to Upshot over 1200m at Warwick Farm on July 13.
Ryan trained Snitzel to his 2006 Oakleigh Plate win and has has an affinity with his progeny.
Last year's Golden Slipper runner-up Snitzerland and Flying Snitzel, who boasts a Group Two win over Norzita, are both back in work at Rosehill.
"They are both a few weeks off a trial but both are coming along well," Ryan said.
"There is a lot to look forward to with them."
