Eagle Farm track ready for winter racing

Friday 15 May 2020, 1:03pm

The main lead-up meeting to next month's Queensland Group One races will go ahead at Eagle Farm as scheduled on Saturday week.

The track got the approval of officials, trainers and jockeys after a course proper track gallop.

Eagle Farm has not hosted a race meeting since March 25 after it was given an eight-week hiatus to help it recover from summer racing.

The Eagle course proper chopped up during the seven meetings it had during February and March.

It was partly put down to a grub infestation which has been addressed in recent weeks.

Eagle Farm is due to host the May 23 meeting which will have the Group Two Victory Stakes and Group Two Champagne Classic as its features.

Three horses worked on the course proper on Friday morning without any problems.

"There were no complaints from the jockeys and the times were good," a Brisbane Racing Club spokesman said.

Meanwhile, racing under coronavirus protocols in Queensland will be further modified from six regions to three from Monday.

Racing Queensland announced a change to the original zones last week which in effect allowed trainers in the south to contest all meetings

The existing protocols limiting participants to their designated location outside of raceday, including trials, trackwork and jumpouts, remained in place.
