His fourth successive Melbourne trainers' premiership is behind him, now for the fifth.
Peter Moody begins the new battle at Moonee Valley on Saturday with a couple of chances and a couple of experimental offerings he is hoping will transform into spring prospects.
Of most interest to Moody, and to stable followers, will be the graduation from the two-year-old ranks of the promising pair Weinholt and Diamond Glow.
Weinholt has been off the scene since winning at Caulfield in March, a run that confirmed him as an above-average colt, while Diamond Glow hasn't run since finishing second to Miracles Of Life in a Blue Diamond Preview.
"Obviously it's always going to be difficult to assess how they make the move from two to three, but both had strong form and both have had nice spells and have done well in their work," Moody said.
Weinholt runs in the colts and gelding division of the Benchmark 78 Handicap (1000m) where he meets only six opponents, including boom New Zealander Cauthen and the best Victorian two-year-old from the first half of season 2012-13, Clevadude.
Diamond Glow is posing a different question to Moody who hasn't yet made a decision on a spring campaign for the filly.
An impressive winner on debut at Caulfield in January, Diamond Glow finished second at her only other run behind Blue Diamond champion Miracles Of Life.
On that form she would have strong claims in any race, but Moody is waiting before setting her a spring target.
"Saturday will tell me a lot about where we go this spring," he said.
"I'm just not sure how much she's matured since the summer.
"It could be that she just has a short campaign now to prepare her for the autumn."
Diamond Glow will have a maximum of only five opponents on Saturday including stakes winner Metastasio.
