Purton extends HK premiership lead to five

A winner in the final race on the program at Happy Valley has edged Australian Zac Purton further ahead of Joao Moreira in this season's Hong Kong Jockeys' premiership.

Purton started Wednesday night's meeting with a four-win lead in the standings and with Moreira going winless on the night, Purton edged a further win ahead after steering Highland Fortune to victory in the final of nine races on the card.

Purton has moved to 128 winners for the season with Moreira on 123.

Karis Teetan is third with 76 wins.

There are 11 meetings remaining in the Hong Kong season which concludes on July 15.

Purton is chasing his fourth Hong Kong premiership and third in succession.
