Patis to join Sears yard after Ipswich win

Saturday 18 July 2020, 12:31pm

Apprentice Alex Patis is set to further her association with the Tony and Maddy Sears stable after a win on Bangers And Mayo at Ipswich.

Bangers And Mayo ($7) bounced straight to lead and was never headed in the Ipswich Events and Entertainment 2YO (1666m).

Paris rode her first Eagle Farm winner on Piracy for the Sears stable on Wednesday and also her first metropolitan winner for them on Spirit One at the Gold Coast in May.

She will move on loan to the Sears camp in Toowoomba next week and hopes it will further boost her career.

"Tony and Maddy have been good to me and when they asked if I would like to have a stint with them I was happy to go," Patis said.

"It should give me more opportunities."

Patis is from Queensland but did the early part of her apprenticeship in Victoria and Tasmania.

"Tasmania was really good but you get plenty of rides. But I was missing my family in Queensland and moved back late last year," Patis said.

"I have been based on the Gold Coast since then."

Patis has now ridden 53 winners of which four have been in the metropolitan area.

Maddy Sears said Bangers And Mayo could want to over race and Patis had done a good job to get her to settle.

"We knew if he could lead and settle he would be very hard to beat," she said.
