Coolmore confirm death of Atlantic Jewel

Friday 21 August 2020, 11:32am

Four-time Group One winner Atlantic Jewel has died after suffering a haemorrhage following the birth of her colt in the NSW Hunter Valley.

Coolmore's Tom Moore confirmed the news to ANZ Bloodstock and said the foal, by US champion Justify, survived.

"Sadly we lost the brilliant Atlantic Jewel last night when she haemorrhaged after foaling," Moore said.

"It is very sad news but she did leave behind a cracking Justify colt who is doing well."

Trained by Mark Kavanagh, Atlantic Jewel was an outstanding racehorse and won 10 of her 11 starts, including a four-length demolition at her final appearance in the 2013 Caulfield Stakes.

She started her broodmare career in Ireland where her progeny includes smart Aidan O'Brien-trained three-year-old Russian Emperor.
