Form around Are You Sure strong

Sunday 21 October 2012, 11:18am

Young trainer Cameron Crockett hopes Are You Sure can live up to his last start effort in Sydney when he lines up in the Coonabarabran Cup (1600m) on Monday.

Are You Sure finished sixth behind Snitsky on the Randwick Kensington track beaten 3-1/2 lengths in what has turned out to be a strong form race for a country Cup race like he contests on Monday.

Snitsky won again at Randwick on Saturday, while Future Shock, who finished fourth just ahead of Are You Sure, ran second at Canterbury last week.

Crockett has only been training for 12 months and already has six winners from 20 starters.

"It's been good so far and this is my first runner in the race so I'm hoping he can run as well as he has been," Crockett said.

"He has trained on well since and it doesn't look an overly strong race.

"I was going to start him in another race, but the Cup didn't look beyond him so I put him in."

Are You Sure hasn't done a lot of racing for a five-year-old with four wins from 11 starts.

Crockett, the son of legendary bush trainer Max Crockett, said Are You Sure was always a bit behind after having troubles as an early foal.

"There were complications with him and really to look at he is like a three-year-old," he said.

"I treat him exactly like that and I think over the next couple of years he will keep getting better."

Crockett said Are You Sure's run in Sydney was even better considering the inside section of the track was, in his opinion, not as good as the outside that day.

"It was a big run considering what some of the others in front of him have done since," he said.

"He shocked me a bit first-up when he won because he wasn't fully wound up and he has gone on since then."

The 26-year-old has engaged leading county rider Greg Ryan for Are You Sure with the jockey looking for back to back wins following Granite Bluff last year.
