Moody In Good Health after narrow win

Saturday 29 August 2020, 5:21pm

The old firm of trainer Peter Moody and jockey Luke Nolen, who combined to dominate Melbourne racing for years, were back in the spotlight when In Good Health caused an upset in the Listed Heatherlie Stakes.

Moody, who returned to training four months ago after walking away from the sport, said the win was "very special" as the mare was part-owned by the Ramsey family, who had supported him from the start of his training career.

"And the Frith family from Roma in western Queensland, out in my country, it's so very gratifying," Moody said.

Moody acknowledged In Good Health faced a big step up in class to Saturday's 1700 metre Caulfield assignment after her last-start midweek win at Sandown but he knew she had improved.

He said that owner Stuart Ramsey had suggested In Good Health would be going to stud if she didn't run well.

Ramsey had also made the trainer nominate her for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups.

"It's just special to win with those colours and 'Trumby' (Nolen) in them," Moody said.

Nolen has also had a lot of luck for the Ramsey family over the years.

"I was happy with her effort today and it wasn't a surprise to the stable, I'm glad to say," Nolen said.

In Good Health ($61) defeated Sircconi ($3 fav) by a short head with Game Keeper ($5.50) a long neck away third.
