Outback Barbie to resume in Sheraco Stakes

Monday 7 September 2020, 12:15pm

Talented mare Outback Barbie will make her return to racing in the Group Two Sheraco Stakes at Rosehill.

Trainer Tony Gollan said the five-year-old left his Eagle Farm stables on Thursday night by float bound for Sydney where she will be reunited with regular jockey Jim Byrne.

"Her work on Tuesday was terrific and she's coming along beautifully," Gollan said.

Byrne is in Sydney primarily to partner boom three-year-old Rothfire, who will race on the same day as Outback Barbie in the Group Two The Run To The Rose (1200m) in a much-anticipated showdown with Golden Slipper winner Farnan.

He also is in line to ride another Queensland-trained sprinter Tyzone when the Stradbroke Handicap winner resumes in Saturday's Group Two Theo Marks Stakes (1300m).

Outback Barbie was given a let-up by Gollan after finishing sixth to Love You Lucy in the Group Two Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 13.

The mare won this year's Magic Millions Fillies and Mares Quality (1400m) when ridden by champion jockey James McDonald.

Outback Barbie campaigned in Sydney as a two-year-old in 2018, finishing third to Pure Elation in the Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) at Randwick.

She also ran a close second at the same track to Fiesta in the Group Two Silver Shadow Stakes later that year during the spring carnival.
