Glenfiddich, the best local chance in the Caulfield Guineas, will miss the race due to a breathing problem.
His trainer Peter Moody said Glenfiddich had an epiglottic entrapment in his throat which needed to be operated on, ruling him out of the Melbourne spring carnival.
"It's not major but it's something we need to fix up," Moody said.
"It's disappointing but we will get him back for the autumn. It's been affecting his breathing."
Moody returned to training in May and Glenfiddich is his banner horse.
In two starts since joining the Moody stable, the son of Fastnet Rock has finished third in the Group One Memsie Stakes at Caulfield behind Behemoth and won the Group Two Stutt Stakes at Moonee Valley.
Glenfiddich was second favourite for the Caulfield Guineas prior to his withdrawal on Tuesday.
Moody had trained one previous winner of the Guineas which was Anacheeva in 2010.
