Green Moon impresses in track gallop

Saturday 10 August 2013, 2:51pm

Brett Prebble says Green Moon is progressing well towards the spring after the Melbourne Cup-winning pair reunited for a track gallop between races at Flemington on Saturday.

Green Moon and four of his carnival-bound stablemates took part in exhibition gallops at the Aurie's Star meeting.

The Lloyd Williams-owned Green Moon clocked 11.85 seconds for the final 200m of his gallop as he edged past Thought Worthy.

Highly-rated import Sea Moon worked with last year's Turnbull Stakes runner-up Seville and Masked Marvel in an earlier gallop with Prebble on Sea Moon.

The Hong Kong-based Prebble, who is in Melbourne until November, was pleased with both horses and particularly taken by Green Moon's effort over the final stages.

"He has come to hand very quickly and his last furlong (200m) today was very impressive," Prebble said of Green Moon.

Sea Moon, Masked Marvel and Thought Worthy are yet to race in Australia but are nominated for the major spring races.

Prebble said Sea Moon, who sat behind his two stablemates before joining them on the outside, produced a strong piece of work.

"The last 400 metres he gave me a good feel and had a great stride on him. He's going in the right direction," Prebble said.

Sea Moon's victories in Europe include last year's Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot where he defeated Dunaden and Red Cadeaux.

"He's got to put his hand up in Australia but if he brings his Europe form here, they are going to know that there's a serious horse in town," Prebble said.

Part-owner Nick Williams said all five horses worked well and nominated the Memsie Stakes on August 31 and the Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington a week later as first-up options for the quintet.

"We'll probably have some in each of those races," Williams said.
