Flying Ancestry makes it four in a row

Thursday 5 November 2020, 3:59pm

Flying machine Ancestry completed a perfect campaign when he made it four wins from as many starts with an all-the-way effort in the Century Stakes.

And as he has done in all of those wins he led throughout for apprentice Michael Poy, who claimed his first race at the Flemington carnival.

Ancestry's trainer Phillip Stokes said the best aspect of the performance was that the horse had proven he could handle the straight.

"The straight is not a problem and geez, he's a fast horse and he's going great," Stokes said.

The trainer said his instructions to Poy were not to fight Ancestry and to just go with him and the junior rider rated the horse beautifully.

Poy has ridden Ancestry to his past four wins and said the four-year-old had excuses when beaten at his only other start at Flemington earlier this year.

"He's got a high cruising speed, he's a 1000 metre horse," Poy said.

"That (unplaced) run at Flemington, he got caught out on the other side of the track with nothing around him."

Poy has also combined with Stokes to win the Seymour and Sale Cups with All Too Huiying this spring.

The young jockey thanked Ancestry's managing owner Wylie Dalziel for putting him on and sticking with him.

Stokes said he would now send Ancestry for a spell and bring him back for the autumn.

Ancestry ($3.20 fav) defeated Garner ($6.50) by 1-1/4 lengths with Villami ($4.80) a short-neck away third.
