Premier Brisbane jockey Michael Cahill will make a rare visit to Sydney to ride Whiskey Allround in Saturday's San Domenico Stakes.

Trainer Tony Gollan will use the Group Three sprint at Rosehill to determine his next step with the gelding who he believes can be a genuine Group One contender this spring.

It will be the second trip to Sydney for Whiskey Allround who was runner-up to Sweet Idea in the Silver Slipper in the autumn.

Sweet Idea went on to run third in the $3.5 million Golden Slipper while Whiskey Allround went home after being unplaced in the Todman Stakes.

Gollan said the time off had done him the world of good and Whiskey Allround was ready for his next assignment after two barrier trials.

"He is nice and fit and forward enough to be competitive in what is a very good field," Gollan said.

"Michael Cahill has ridden him in both his trials and likes what he sees early on so he is coming to Sydney to ride him.

"He decided to stay at home on Saturday rather than go to Melbourne with Temple Of Boom so that is a vote of confidence in Whiskey Allround."

Temple Of Boom finished second to Broken in Saturday's Aurie's Star Handicap at Flemington and will have his next start in the Bobbie Lewis in four weeks.

Melbourne is also in the mix for Whiskey Allround if he performs as Gollan expects.

"He's entered for the Golden Rose but we will take it one race at a time," he said.

"If it looks as if the 1400 metres might be too far then we can aim him at the Coolmore Stud Stakes in Melbourne.

"There are a lot of options for three-year-olds at this time of year."

There were 10 nominations for the San Domenico (1100m) with Gerald Ryan already ruling Snitzel's Jewel out, saying the field was a bit too strong for the filly.

Golden Slipper runner-up Sidestep heads the entries on a 94 rating with his Peter Snowden-trained stablemate Kuroshio on 82 along with Whiskey Allround and the Gai Waterhouse-trained Whittington.
