Leading jockey Baylee Nothdurft believes a recent barrier trial win by speedy mare Sugar Boom has her primed to win the Swiss Ace Plate at the Sunshine Coast.
Sugar Boom resumed from a spell to score in restricted company at Doomben on October 17 before an all-the-way win in a 1050 metre Deagon barrier trial on November 10 when ridden by Nothdurft.
"She went really good. She showed her customary gate speed and got the front and relaxed really nicely and had a good kick when asked" Nothdurft said.
"I didn't ask her to do a hell of a lot, it was more of a pipe-opener but she couldnt have trialled any better."
Sugar Boom, a $2.80 favourite with TAB fixed odds, is the spearhead of trainer Tony Gollan's quartet of runners in the Plate.
He will also saddle up former Victorian Ms Catherine ($11) as well as veteran sprinter Just Orm ($6.50) and Capital Connection ($8.50).
Just Orm also has an impressive record at the 1000 metre circuit winning four times from eight appearances.
Chris Waller and Larry Cassidy will attempt to win another Sunshine Coast feature mile race with a horse carrying a famous set of colours.
When So You Win lines up in the Mooloolaba Cup he will be decked out in the Magic Bloodstock silks of dark blue, white M, epaulettes and pom pom made famous by Winx.
In the 2015 Sunshine Coast Guineas with Cassidy aboard, Winx steamrolled her opposition and started the ball rolling on a winning streak of 33 straight victories until her retirement last year.
So You Win ended a losing streak of almost 18 months when he was successful in a benchmark 90 race over 2040 metres at Doomben on October 31.
Waller has opted for a gear change for So You Win, who will race in blinkers and is dropping back in trip after a freshen up.
Cassidy replaces Luke Dittman who struggles to ride below 55.5kg but has been retained by Waller to partner Le Juge, who will carry 58kg at his first start since a spell.
