Frost Flowers on familiar Diamond path

Friday 1 January 2021, 3:33pm

Star jockey Jamie Kah kicked off the New Year in her usual style by winning the opening race on two-year-old filly Frosted Flowers who identified herself as a Blue Diamond prospect.

Frosted Flowers is trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman and two years ago they also debuted in the same race at Flemington, the subsequent Blue Diamond Stakes winner Lyre, who finished an unlucky fifth.

Stable manager Brad Taylor said they would also follow the Blue Diamond path with the daughter of Frosted, whose first crop is creating a huge impression.

"She'll probably go to Caulfield on Australia Day and run in the first of the Blue Diamond series races. Hopefully we can get through to the end of February," Taylor said.

Frost Flowers is also a half-sister to Freedman's smart two-year-old of last year Hanseatic who finished second in the Blue Diamond Stakes. She is also related to Black Caviar and Magnus.

Frost Flowers firmed from $26 into $15 for the Blue Diamond Stakes.

Taylor said that Frost Flowers was a filly that was going to continue to improve.

"She was professional here today. She's a nice filly, she's got the pedigree to back it up and it's nice to train another winner for Godolphin," Taylor said.

Kah was surprised how professional Frost Flowers was during the race after being green in jump-outs.

"She was so green the other day at the jump outs and I never really got to have a decent feel of her, but today she was an absolute professional and to win like that down the straight is exceptional," Kah said.

Kah had the 1000 metres race under control a long way out and Frost Flowers ($5.50) defeated Tayla's Moment ($12) by 1 1/2 lengths with I Am Enchanting ($14) three lengths away third.
