A trainer and a stablehand have been banned by stewards following an inquiry into the bona fides of the training of Al Dhafra.
Stewards concluded their inquiry into the matter on Friday and disqualified trainer Wayne Hudd for 10 months and stablehand Mark Day for 12 months.
Day was also the gelding's managing owner.
Al Dhafra was due to race at Warwick Farm on July 13 but stewards ordered his scratching due to concerns that Hudd, who was registered as his trainer, had not actually been looking after the gelding.
Their inquiries subsequently found that Day had been caring for and conditioning Al Dhafra despite not holding a trainers' licence.
They also found that Hudd had "connived" with Day to front as the gelding's trainer and had attempted to race the horse when he knew it had not been under the care of a qualified trainer, as required under the rules of racing.
Stewards considered the prior good record of both men when considering penalties.
Hudd's disqualification will rule him out of the sport until June 16, 2014 while Day's ban extends until August 16 next year.
Al Dhafra will not be allowed to race until stewards are satisfied with his training and ownership arrangement.
