Five horses sent back to trials

Saturday 17 August 2013, 6:09pm

Rosehill winner Photon Willie has been sent back to the trials after trying to throw his victory away while Whittington, who blew his chances before his race on Saturday, will also have to show he can behave in the barriers.

Whittington, the favourite for the San Domenico Stakes, was a late withdrawal after getting his forelegs over the front of the stall.

The two were among five horses sent back for re-education, the others being Sugar Rush, Champagne Cath and Studio.

Photon Willie caught his jockey Glyn Schofield by surprise when he shifted in with metres to go in the Merrylands RSL Club Handicap (1500m).

The horse's many quirks led Chris Waller to quip he was training the four-year-old in partnership with chief steward Ray Murrihy who admitted Photon Willie was a "headache".
