Green Moon set to resume in Memsie Stakes

Saturday 24 August 2013, 1:33pm

Melbourne Cup winner Green Moon will make his spring return in next Saturday's Group One Memsie Stakes and is unlikely to clash with stablemate Sea Moon before the Cox Plate.

Owner Lloyd Williams has outlined the planned starting points for his team of spring hopefuls, with Green Moon to step out in the Memsie while Sea Moon will make his Australian debut a week later in the Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington.

While Williams said it wasn't a conscious decision to keep the two stars apart, their programs won't clash until at least the business end of the carnival.

"Green Moon started in the Memsie last year. Sea Moon doesn't need much racing," Williams said.

Williams said Green Moon would "probably go to the Cox Plate".

"He's going OK," the owner said.

Sea Moon's overseas wins include last year's Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot where he defeated Dunaden and Red Cadeaux.

He is among nominations for the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate.

The owner said he would have a better idea on his spring carnival hopefuls after Turnbull Stakes day.

Williams said Masked Marvel, who was one of four horses to work before the first race at Moonee Valley on Saturday, would probably also go to the Makybe Diva Stakes along with Tanby.

Seville could return in the Heatherlie Handicap (1700m) next Saturday or the Makybe Diva Stakes.
