Chris Waller has settled on the Chelmsford Stakes as the second-up target for Beaten Up, leaving Foreteller as the stable's representative in the Makybe Diva Stakes in Melbourne.
Beaten Up is among acceptances for both 1600-metre races but Waller has confirmed he will head to Randwick on Saturday where he will join stablemates Metal Bender, Kelinni, Moriarty, Bayrir and Hawkspur in the Group Two weight-for-age race.
"Beaten Up has drawn a bit wide in both places and I want to give him one more run in Sydney and then he should be a bit more adaptable," Waller said.
"He's not an easy horse to train or to ride. If we get Saturday out of the way, then he can go to Melbourne for the Underwood."
Beaten Up competed at the top level in England and Dubai before joining the Waller stable earlier this year.
He won the Group One Doomben Cup at his fourth Australian run but with just 12 career starts to his name, the six-year-old is still learning.
That is part of the reason Waller decided to run him in Sydney this weekend.
"He is just a bit keen, a bit aggressive," Waller said.
"He's just a very talented horse, he's probably got nearly too much ability and he just wants to get it done."
Beaten Up tackles the Chelmsford Stakes after finishing a solid fourth to Veyron first-up in the Warwick Stakes (1400m).
Waller was satisfied with that performance given a race-fit Rain Affair set a hectic tempo at Warwick Farm, stringing the field out and making the chasers work hard to run him down.
"You could make a point that if Beaten Up was going to win a good race the race was run to suit," Waller said.
"But I see it the other way because they went so quick it made it hard on their fitness levels. You've got to have the oxygen in the tank to be able to run it out."
A field of 13 was paid up for the Chelmsford Stakes although Warwick Stakes runner-up Streama was a notable omission.
Trainer Guy Walter confirmed she would instead be given a barrier trial on Monday and head straight to the Group One George Main Stakes two weeks from Saturday.
