Tim Clark is on a mission to make the most of a rare opportunity at Randwick on Saturday.
Suspensions to trainer Gai Waterhouse's stable riders Nash Rawiller and Tommy Berry have opened the door for Clark to warm the saddle on three Tulloch Lodge chances.
Clark will partner Forever Loved in the Group Two Furious Stakes (1200m) and Whittington in the Group Three Concorde Stakes (1000m).
He will also ride Masahiko for the top trainer in a support event.
Since he returned from Hong Kong at the end of last season, Clark has been riding trackwork for Waterhouse in the hope such an opportunity might come along.
"Obviously Tommy and Nash are there and they are first pick as stable riders," Clark said.
"But I just keep riding work and jogging on the spot, waiting for these types of opportunities. Hopefully I can take advantage of it."
Whittington was due to kick off his campaign in the San Domenico Stakes but played up in the barriers and was a late scratching.
Waterhouse said the colt took no ill effects from the incident and he has since been given the all-clear in a barrier trial.
He faces a tough task against the likes of Group One winners Hay List and Mrs Onassis but Clark says he appears to have returned in good order.
"He's done plenty of work. He's looking really well and he's come on in the coat," Clark said.
"It's a hard task against the older horses but hopefully he can do things right."
Forever Loved jumps from midweek company into a Group Two which includes dual Group One-winning juvenile Guelph.
But the manner of her Canterbury victory, which backed up the promise she had shown on the training track, has given Clark cause for optimism.
"I've ridden her a bit in work and she has always shown really good ability," he said.
"She is up to this level, it's a matter of whether it's now or not."
