McEvoy suspended for Wyong Cup ride

Friday 6 September 2013, 6:15pm

Darley's number one jockey Kerrin McEvoy will be free to ride in the $1 million Golden Rose despite being suspended at Wyong on Friday.

McEvoy pleaded guilty to careless riding on Yulalona in the Wyong Gold Cup after stewards found he caused the favourite Julienas to be checked soon after the field settled.

He received a five-meeting ban and will start his suspension on September 15, the day after the Golden Rose meeting.

McEvoy will be free to resume riding on September 26 and his suspension will rule him out of the George Main Stakes meeting as well as the two-day Newcastle Gold Cup carnival.

Yulalona weakened out of the race after sitting outside the leader to finish fifth.
