Bryan Guy is wary of hardheads.
That's why he decided to book senior rider Ric McMahon instead of stable apprentice Janette Johnson for Jacquetta who won Saturday's Magic Millions 2yo Sale Handicap (1200m) at Eagle Farm.
"I felt a bit sorry for Janette because she's been riding her all the time but today it was a non-claiming race and there were a lot of hardhead jockeys in the race and I didn't want them ganging up on her," Guy said.
"So I put Ric on because he's another hardhead and he rode the mare really well."
Guy admitted the quality handicap conditions of the race worried him.
"If it was a handicap we would've been getting five kilos from Pure Purrfection but we had to meet her at level weights," he said.
"But she carried the 58 (kilos) well and there's another one of these races in a fortnight so we'll head that way."
Earlier, Platinum Jack underscored his versatility and liking for travelling when he won the Fitton Insurance Brokers Handicap (2200m).
Singleton decided to head north from his Hawkesbury stable with Platinum Jack because he believed the gelding would struggle against the better quality stayers during the spring carnival.
"They're a little bit strong for him in Sydney at the moment and I can't place him at the midweeks anymore," Singleton said.
"He's been a good horse to me because we only paid $2500 for him and he's won three city races in three different states in the last six or eight months.
"Travelling away seems to excite him a bit and if anything he's done better since he's been away."
Winning jockey Chris Munce said Platinum Jack settled into a perfect rhythm once he settled at the rear of the field with cover.
