Popular Melbourne jockey Chris Symons is nursing a broken foot after a freak accident in the jockeys' car park at Wednesday's Sale race meeting.
Symons was loading his gear into his car after the meeting when he spotted a car reversing toward him.
Realising it wasn't going to stop, he leapt into the open boot of his car, but not quite in time.
Symons said his left foot didn't reach the sanctuary of the luggage compartment and was trapped between his vehicle and the one driven by a prominent apprentice.
The initial diagnosis is that a number of bones are fractured and he will miss this weekend's three Victorian metropolitan meetings.
It is so far uncertain how long Symons will be out of the saddle.
The jockey told RSN radio the response of fellow jockeys who witnessed the incident was questionable, but predictable.
"I thought they were ringing for an ambulance, but they were ringing to get my rides," he said.
