Ryan stablemates set for big campaigns

A barrier trial win at Rosehill on Tuesday has primed Snitzerland for her first-up assignment in the Group One Moir Stakes.

Trainer Gerald Ryan has no doubts the mare can realise her Group One destiny this spring in either the Moir or the Manikato Stakes.

Her smooth trial experience was in contrast to the one her stablemate Dothraki encountered earlier this month when Ryan feared his spring was over before it began.

The talented colt was withdrawn from his scheduled heat after he cut himself when he took fright as the horse in the neighbouring stall played up.

Ryan feared the worst but his concerns proved groundless and it's all systems go for the Listed Heritage Stakes (1100m).

"He's fine. He's come through well and the plan at the moment is to give him a purely Sydney campaign," Ryan said.

"We'll go to the Heritage then the Roman Consul and Brian Crowley Stakes.

"Snitzerland was very pleasing and she has come through her trial well."

Va Pensiero is the topweight with 58.5kg for the Heritage following his wins in the San Domenico Stakes and the Run To The Rose with I'm All The Talk on 58kg.

Dothraki will carry 56kg with Brenton Avdulla to ride.

The colt was placed twice at Group level in the autumn, running third to I'm All The Talk in the Skyline Stakes and second to Sidestep in the Pago Pago.

Sidestep went on to run second to Overreach in the Golden Slipper in which Dothraki finished last on the slow track.

"I don't know if it was the wet track or whether he had just come to the end of a long preparation," Ryan said.

Stablemate Charlie Boy, who ran eighth in the Slipper, excelled in his season return with victory in the Group Two Danehill Stakes at Flemington last Saturday week and will be stepped up to 1400m for his next start.
