I'm 50-50 to make Dissident weight: Clark

Friday 20 September 2013, 4:05pm

Tim Clark hasn't given up on riding Dissident at the three-year-old's proper weight in the George Main Stakes.

Last week's Golden Rose runner-up has 50.5kg in the weight-for-age race at Randwick on Saturday but Clark is allowed to ride the Peter Moody-trained galloper at 0.5kg overweight.

Clark, however, rates himself an even-money chance to make the weight.

"I'm probably fifty-fifty at the moment and I've got a couple of kilos to go," Clark said as he prepared for Randwick barrier trial rides on Friday.

"Getting permission to ride a half kilo over is just a bit of insurance really."

Dissident will be out to break a run of outs for three-year-olds in the George Main after the age group dominated the race in the 1990s and into the early 2000s.

The colt contests the George Main after his tenacity carried him into second placing behind Zoustar in the Golden Rose.

"He had a tough run there the other day so hopefully he can back it up.

"But I know that he wouldn't be running if he didn't come through the Golden Rose well."

It hasn't taken Clark long to settle into Australian racing again after returning from Hong Kong.

And a Group One win will take Clark a long way towards confirming his place as a top 10 rider in Sydney.

"It will be nice to get a big one over the carnival," he said.

"There's only been one Group One so far in Sydney this season and I just missed so hopefully tomorrow I can go one better."

Dissident is one of three solid stakes chances for Clark on Saturday because Sizzling (Bill Ritchie Handicap) and Kingdoms (Hill Stakes) have been well found in early betting.
