Anthony Cummings insists his maiden colt Cluster isn't alone in chasing a Stutt Stakes result that can provide more than a glimmer of Caulfield Guineas hope.

Cluster continues his spring campaign in the Group Two race at Moonee Valley on Friday night and is the early favourite to post his first win.

"There are no Group horses in there and they are all trying to make their mark at that level," Cummings said.

"Cluster fits into that team as well but I expect him to run well because this is the easiest assignment he's had over the past month or so."

After a sequence of missed opportunities in Sydney, Cluster will be out to re-establish his claims as a legitimate Caulfield Guineas chance in the Stutt Stakes.

Cluster ran midfield in the Group One Golden Rose but it was a result that did nothing to detract from rating as one of Australia's most promising young horses.

For the first time in his short career, Cluster was hustled out of the barrier to dispute the front before easing into a trail.

He was asked to improve again at the 500m with his beaten margin of 3-1/2 lengths ensuring he came out of the Group One race with his reputation intact.

Cummings said Cluster had trained on since the Golden Rose.

"He's taken no harm from it and he's in good shape," the trainer said.

Cluster has drawn towards the outside but the presence of two horses from the Gai Waterhouse stable could help offset any disadvantage.

Divine Calling, pressing Cluster for Stutt favouritism, has gate 12 with stablemate Countryman directly on his inside.

They will be expected to go forward and provide enough tempo for run-on horses like Cluster to have their chance.
