Hayes revises spring options for Jet Away

Thursday 26 September 2013, 5:22pm

David Hayes has flagged a possible switch with import Jet Away after an exhibition gallop at Seymour on Thursday.

The one-time Caulfield Cup favourite Jet Away is yet to make his re-appearance this spring and missed the Underwood Stakes last weekend when mucus was found in his throat.

The seven-year-old was pushed along gallop with stablemate Motivado travelling much better on his inside.

Hayes said he would decide on which race Jet Away resumes after another gallop next week.

The trainer had pinpointed Saturday week's Group One Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington as Jet Away's revised first-up run ahead of the Caulfield Cup when it was revealed he would miss the Underwood Stakes.

"With Jet Away I will do another good hit-out at Lindsay Park on Monday or Tuesday and then I'll make a decision which way we go," Hayes told TVN.

"Whether we have a crack at the Turnbull or we might keep him fresh for the Toorak. There's lots of options."

The Group One Toorak Handicap (1600m) is on October 12 at Caulfield.

Hayes said Jet Away was a lazy trackworker and he thought he ran out of condition at the end of the gallop after pulling early on.

"I thought Motivado had the better of the gallop but normally they do when horses pull and he (Jet Away) had a huge blow after it," Hayes said.

Hayes said Jet Away scoped scoped clear for the first time in "a week or so" after a gallop.
