The $120,000 Listed R M Ansett Classic at Mornington on Saturday could be the last race for Ipswich Cup winner Anagold if she can't produce a winning performance.
Trainer Mick Price, who took over the five-year-old mare's training from Queensland trainer Bryan Guy, said Anagold's future might lay in the breeding barn.
"It will be her last run before a break but she will probably go to the breeding barn," Price said.
He said the soft track at Mornington will suit Anagold after she jarred up in her last outing when she finished fourth over 2500m at Moonee Valley on September 14.
If Anagold, second on the betting line at $6 behind favourite Surpass ($3), was to win Price said there would be the temptation to keep her going one more time.
"We want to go out on a winning note," he said.
"You can be tempted to go one more, but I don't think I'll be tempted."
He said the 2415m journey should not be a problem for Anagold.
"The distance shouldn't be a concern - it's just a matter if she has enough petrol in the tank," he said.
Anagold, who spent most of her career in Queensland, has had six wins in her career with five of them over 2000m while earning almost $280,000 in prize money.
Group Three Wellington Stakes winner Weissmuller, who ran second to Lightenuff in his last start at Sandown, has been scratched from the race because of the track surface which has been rated a heavy 8, with the prospect of light showers on Saturday.
